The Perfect People (II)

In catalogs, on billboards (and mind's resolve?),
They model beachwear smiles--and toothpaste brands.
Platonic forms show how we should evolve.
We ape the posture Perfect People advance.
But doesn't every-schoolboy-know that Greek
Ideals don't exist? And am I forgiven
For wanting hubris? "Blessed are the meek,"
But also: "to those that have shall more be given."
How can an effortlessly carefree glance
Indict concerns of homeless, ozone loss,
Or AIDS as consciously malicious plans
To poison joy or overstate mere flaws?

Insidious fiction of salvation: can
You fashion me just like Omega Man?
